Some French still care

VFW Magazine, Nov, 2003

Despite the ongoing feud between France and America, there are still people in that country who remember American sacrifices in WWII on their behalf. The "Les Fleurs de la Memoire," an association of 1,500 French citizens based in Normandy, tends to the U.S. gravesites in the cemeteries at Colleville sur mer and St. James.

"With our children and grandchildren, we'll go on saluting our deserving 'guys,'" association member Claude Lavieille wrote. "We'll show them from the bottom of our hearts that we will never forget the courage and sacrifice they made for us in 1944."

Editor's Note: In an upcoming issue, VFW magazine will review activities planned for the 60th anniversary of Normandy in June 2004.
