Founding Fathers irrelevant!

VFW Magazine, April, 2002

The New Jersey Board of Education, under Commissioner William L. Librera, is attempting to restore the Founding Fathers to their proper place in history. Parents and some legislators insist that the school curriculum include the nation's early leaders, who had been excluded from state history standards.

But in New Jersey, the crusade to revise history goes far beyond leaders of the Revolution. Also excluded from that state's version of American history are the Pilgrims and the Mayflower. And the word "war" has been erased from lessons about settlement of the frontier.

Most references to inhumane treatment meted out to U.S. soldiers in 20th century overseas wars are gone, too, according to the Washington Times. That would include WWII Japanese and Korean War Communist atrocities perpetrated against POWs.

"This is what you call a historical irresponsibility," David Saxe told the Washington Times. Professor Saxe specializes in reviewing state history standards for the Thomas B. Fordham Foundation. Others called such revisionism "political correctness at the end of the nth degree."
