Helicopter crash kills 10 GIs in Philippines

A helicopter carrying 10 U.S. personnel crashed offshore in the southern Philippines Feb. 21, killing all aboard. They were the first U.S. fatalities in the region since U.S. troops began arriving there in December.
The MH-47 Chinook crashed in the Basilan Strait as the helicopter was flying from the southern island of Basilan to Mactan Island.
Aboard were eight Army crew members of E Co., 160th Special Operations Aviation Regt., and two Air Force pararescuemen of the 353rd Special Operations Group. At press time, the cause of the crash was unknown, and only three bodies had been recovered.
