A terrible thing - Feedback

University Business, Jan, 2003 by Robert Bain

Re: "Hurry Up and Graduate" [Controversy, September 2002], no real controversy here. Simply an attempt to revisit an advertising firm's faux pas. It has continually "bugged" me that the phrase the mind is a terrible thing to waste continues in use. Professor Kellman used it in his writing. The mind is not A TERRIBLE THING. However, it is a terrible thing to waste a mind. But I concur with the professor: There are too many external variables that impact too great a number of students in their quest for a college degree. Institutions of higher education should be required to read and live by the hyperbolic mantras they compose to recruit those same students. You have a great publication. The really, really, I mean really good article for September '02 was "Putting the Community Back in Community Colleges."
