Boston University - Appointed And Promoted

University Business, August, 2003 by Jean Marie Angelo

Daniel Goldin has been picked to lead Boston University. He was expected to accept the position this month. The former NASA administrator will launch the school's first $1 billion capital campaign, and plans to improve academic programs, especially math and science. Goldin was an unusual candidate for the job, which has been open for the past year, as he is an outsider to academia and lacking a graduate degree, according to media reports.

Still, trustees see him as having the qualities that will increase BU's national stature and woo back past donors while reaching out to new ones. While at NASA, Goldin proved that he was money-minded with his belief in the motto, "Faster, better, cheaper." He replaces acting leader Jon Westling, who will become president emeritus when Goldin comes on board.
