Who's got game? Survey dispels stereotype - Update

University Business, August, 2003

Picture the average college computer garner: male, caffeine-addled, and averse to strong sunlight, right? Not according to a new survey conducted by the Pew Internet & American Life Project (www.pewinternet.org). It says that about 60 percent of college garners am females who play online and computer-based videogames. Males, on the other hand, prefer console-based games such as those they play on Sony's PlayStation or Microsoft's XBox.

"Part of the reason more women than men play computer games may be that videogames are generally focused on action and adventure (often violent in nature), while computer games are typically traditional games (e.g., solitaire, board games)," says the report.
