HALIFAX -- Cesar Lalo, a former Nova Scotia probation officer was found guilty of 16 sex-related charges recently after a three-day deliberation by the jury.

Lalo has already served nine years in prison for abusing seven children who were formerly under his care in Ontario. While in prison he was charged with several sex assault charges ranging from buggery to attempted gross indecency for incidents involving young males who he supervised as a probationary officer.

The offenses for which he was charged in Nova Scotia took place between 1972 and 1989. Several of the charges carry maximum penalties of 10 years.

Ten of the 11 victims have launched civil suits against the province seeking compensation for the abuse, but they have yet to receive any payouts.
