N.B. allocates $10 million for early childhood projects - Child & Family - New Brunswick - Brief Article

FREDERICTON -- The New Brunswick government has allocated $10 million for phase II of the province's Early Childhood initiatives. The allocations includes:

* Almost $950,000 for Enhanced Child Day Care Services. Training and professional development is being provided for child care worker training.

* More than $880,000 for the Early Language Program for Preschool Children. Pilot projects are being supported in the Saint John, Chaleur and Acadian Peninsula regions.

* An additional $300,000 for the Community Capacity Building Program for Children. Community-based projects, parent support and education initiatives are being supported including a community engagement strategy to reach parents, businesses, communities, service providers and government sectors.

* More than $330,000 for enhancements to the Early Childhood Initiatives Program. Funding is being increased from $3,000 to $3,150 per space per year for early intervention and integrated day care services for children receiving services under this Program.

The federal government has allocated $9.7 million for New Brunswick's early childhood development initiatives during 2002-2003, which adds to provincial government's expenditure of over $26 million a year.
