UNICEF report on child mortality grim

Community Action, Oct 25, 2004

> UNICEF reports child mortality rates, measured by the number of children who die before the age of 5, have increased or stagnated in more than one third of sub-Saharan African countries. "It is incredible that in an age of technological and medical marvels, child survival is so tenuous in so many places," said UNICEF Executive Director Carol Bellamy, noting the "alarmingly slow progress" on one of the top United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
