Train medical students at UNBC - Health

Community Action, Dec 9, 2002

PRINCE GEORGE -- A new health sciences centre at the University of Northern B.C. aims to increase the supply of doctors and improve northern health care by training medical students in the north for the first time, said Premier Gordon Campbell and UNBC president Charles Jago, who unveiled plans for the $12-million facility. Doctors will study and complete their residencies in the regions where they are needed. "The result will be more doctors and better care for patients."

A collaborative approach will allow 24 students to take the first semester at UBC, then complete the program at UNBC and receive their medical degree from UBC. UNBC students will also serve their residency requirements in northern communities. 250 356-8706
