Non-standard jobs for new workers

Community Action, Jan 24, 2005

Most people (60%) entering the labour force or turning to work after no employment, usually come in as non-standard workers--taking part-time jobs, temporary position or self-employment, according to a study of non-standard employment in 1999-2001.

Most (54%) of non-standard workers remain in such jobs for the next two years.

Most (60%) of individuals who moved from no employment in 1999 into employment in either 2000 or 2001 originally found non-standard jobs.

The study was conducted by Costa Kapsalis and Pierre Tourigny for Human Resources and Skills Development Canada.
