Dental Assistant, The, May-June, 2004

With an MS Degree in Oral Biology from the University of Washington, Ms. Reynolds has held teaching positions emphasizing the dental sciences at numerous dental and dental hygiene schools. She is involved with several private practices as a hygienist. Currently, Betsy resides in the Denver, Colorado, area where she is an Associate Professor in the dental and dental hygiene departments at the University of Colorado and is a part-time faculty member in the dental hygiene department at the Community College of Denver.

A02 The Role of the Dental Assistant in the Invisalign Practice

A two-hour presentation introducing Invisiallgn to dental assistants and describing the important role dental assistants play in making an Invisalign practice successful. Topics include patient education, record keeping, photography, and marketing Invisalign.

Dr. David Alpan is an early adopter of the Invisalign Procedure ('99) and a Clinical speaker for Align Technology. He founded Orthodontic Treatment Planning and provides treatment planning through OTP and other services. A private practitioner for over four years, he has offices in Beverly Hi& Los Angeles, and Las Vegas. Dr. Alpan graduated from the University of the Pacific with a DDS in 1996, and earned a Certificate in Orthodontics in 1998 and his MSD in 1998.

A03 Resources for Promoting Oral Fitness

Scientific evidence confirms that achieving an optimal level of oral health improves and strengthens the quality of life. By understanding and working with the realities of human behavior, a dental professional can establish a care continuum, which promotes and supports improved clinical outcomes. Topics for this fast-paced and interactive program include: developing yourself, the dental professional as a resource; building quality patient/clinician relationships; and utilizing social motivation and behavioral psychology to promote the process of change. Patient and product assessment skills will be defined, as they relate to individualized needs-based and evidence-based recommendations. Audience interaction is encouraged as product resources are reviewed and evaluated.

Gail Stoops has 23 years of experience as a clinical hygienist and is a graduate of the Ace Dental Hygiene Program at the University of Alaska, Anchorage. She has served in local, state, regional and national professional association positions including President of the American Dental Hygienists Association. Ms. Stoops is the creator and presenter of clinically oriented continuing education courses. Am inventor of a low aerosol suction tip, she also serves as a part-time educator for Philips Oral Healthcare.
