Second ordination of women on the Danube

Catholic New Times, June 6, 2004

Women's Ordination Worldwide, the group of European Catholics who conducted the ordination of seven women in a ceremony on the Danube River in 2002, has announced a second ordination on June 26, 2004.

The boat will sail from Passau, Germany in the morning and sail towards the episcopal city of Regensburg. Women from France, Switzerland, Austria, America, Canada and Africa will be ordained to the diaconate and presbyterate.

The date chosen is the same as that on which many male priests are ordained in the Roman Catholic Church. "This 2004 ordination feast is in the sprit of renewal within the church, ecumenical unity and worldwide recognition of the equal dignity of women," said spokepersons Christine Mayr Lumetzberger, Gisela Forster and Patricia Fresen.
