St. Paul University and feminist studies

Catholic New Times, July 3, 2005 by Susan K. Roll

In response to your editorial regarding the lack of recognition of women students' feminist awareness in theology faculties in Canada, may I draw your attention to the Centre for Women and Christian Traditions Centre femmes et traditions chretiennes at Saint Paul University in Ottawa.

Founded five years ago by a consortium of women professors in theology, human sciences, philosophy and canon layS1 the Centre's purpose is to promote feminist studies and women's studies in these academic areas, and to raise consciousness of women's issues through dialogue. We organize invited guest lectures, panels and workshops, publish articles and collections, make resources available and provide bursaries to qualified women students.

In March, 2005 we held a two-day conference featuring Heather Eaton entitled "Earth Spirit: Conversations on Ecology and Religion." We have hosted Ivone Gebara three times, Rosemary Ruether, Lois Wilson and Eleanor Milne, and we have invited Mary Malone for March, 2007.

See our website at ww.ustpaul.ca. Click on Centre and Activities, then on Women and Christian Traditions.
