French human rights groups target Holy See on rights of the child

Catholic New Times, Sept 12, 2004

Two French non-governmental organizations, "Droits et Libertes dans les Eglises" and "Nous Sommes Aussi l'Eglise," along with "Catholics for a Free Choice" have released a report to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child claiming that in cases of sexual abuse of minors by clergy in France, the Holy See's behaviour has conflicted with France's child protection laws.

The Report, entitled "The Holy See and the Convention on the Rights of the Child" also asserts that the Holy See, as a member state of the UN and a signatory to the Convention is required to file reports outlining its compliance with the Convention, which it has refused to do since 1997.
