Archaeology shows women's ministries
Catholic New Times, Feb 8, 2004
A 2004 art calendar developed by theologian Dorothy Irvin of St Paul, Minnesota features 6 pictures of early church frescoes and mosaics which depict women priests, bishops and deacons.
The calendar, called "The Archaeology of Women's Traditional Ministries," follows Irvin's 2003 calendar, which was widely admired, and translated into French and German. "I am convinced," says Irvin, "that our ancestors in the faith left these records to express their belief and practice and to encourage us in later centuries." The pictures make "our neglected history as ordained women more widely known." In Canada, the calendars are handled by Marie Bouclin of Sudbury.
