Two catholic American evangelicals

Catholic New Times, April 10, 2005

TIME magazine has named the 25 most influential conservative Christian leaders in the US. The list, with James Dobson, Billy and Franklin Graham, Michael Gerson and Timothy La Haye, includes two Roman Catholics, Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, and priest Richard John Neuhaus. Neuhaus is the authority most quoted by president Bush on such policies as abortion, stem cell research, cloning and defence-of-marriage.

Santorum is the Senate's third-ranking Republican, the "standard bearer of social conservatives on the Hill," taking the point position against gay marriage, abortion rights and judges who defend either. He meets monthly with evangelical leaders, and his staff regularly taps evangelical broadcasters to mobilize support for their common agenda. Santorum, 46, is said to have presidential ambitions.
