Ida Raming touring U.S
Catholic New Times, April 20, 2003
Dr. Ida Raining, the 72-year-old German theologian and writer, who was ordained to the Catholic priesthood on the Danube River last June, will be speaking in 12 U.S. cities during April and May.
Hosted by regional groups of Call to Action members, Raining, who has been excommunicated along with the six other women ordained, will discuss her reasons for going ahead with ordination and her challenge to canon law regarding women's exclusion.
Raming's ground breaking 1976 work was The Exclusion of Women from the Priesthood: Divine Law or Sex Discrimination.
It is based, she says, on the concept of the essential and ethical inferiority of women and will be republished this year with a forward by Bernard Cooke.
The tour, sponsored by Catholics Speak Out (www.cso@quixote.org), begins April 4 in Madison N.J. and continues in California, before heading to Rochester, N.Y. May 1 and Philadelphia May 3.
