National Council of Churches promotes health coverage

Catholic New Times, May 21, 2006

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Nearly 46 million Americans, including more than eight million children, are living without health coverage. In early May, during "Cover the Uninsured Week," activities took place throughout the United States. The purpose of the week was to tell the

U.S. Congress that health coverage for Americans must be their top priority. The National Council of Churches (U.S.A.) urged church congregations to take an active role to bring the issue to the attention of the public. "A problem of this magnitude underscores the moral and ethical dimensions of this growing problem and the need to respond," pointed out the NCC. See www.CoverTheUninsured.org.
