NEW VOTERS
I was distressed upon reading the "New Voters" article because research on Asian voters was so skimpy. If research is done on Latinos, African Americans and college students, the Asian population should also have coverage beyond mentioning the Vietnamese in one sentence.

The "New Voters" reasons for not participating in democracy's foremost right and responsibility are the same reasons that gave birth to the Green Party. For those very reasons I took the wonderful education from almost 20 years of League membership and became a Green.
The League taught me much about the state of the world and the need
for all of us to get involved. But the League's job ends just before actual governing starts. To make changes--in our handling of the environment, international relations, how campaigns are financed, etc.--requires electing people who believe in, and will pull the levers of power for, change.
While my attention is focused on getting League values made law by the only party that I feel fully shares them, I am indebted to and deeply appreciative of League processes and training. Working separately--partisan and nonpartisan--we can solve the "American problem" as Dan Freedman, Sasha Johnson and years of League experience advise, one on one.

ISSUES--NOT CAN DI DATES
As a longtime member of LWV, I was always able to explain that we study issues, not candidates, that we are nonpartisan. The Sept./Oct. issue goes too far. We do not need or want to read your opinions of the five hot Senate races. The liberal biases were fairly evident and not necessary. More articles like this and "New Voters" will lose LWV members and all credibility as a nonpartisan organization.

The Sept./Oct. issue of The National Voter was great--very informative and timely!

From the Editor: The Sept./Oct. issue provoked many readers to write, and the staff is delighted that you read the articles and made time to communicate your concerns. Whenever a new issue goes out, we hope our readers will write. Of course we like to hear that we are doing a good job, but we also appreciate hearing from you when we have not measured up in some way. Your letters are the only way we can know how we are doing and what you think; they truly are "feedback."
We have received several letters from MN readers who felt that the Senate races article, written by a well-regarded journalist, failed to give a well-balanced account of the MN race. As is our practice for all articles, this one was reviewed in-house; unfortunately more extensive review beyond our editorial board, however desirable, is not possible. Please be assured that we will keep your criticisms in mind and continue to strive for excellence.
