What a Concept! (Re: Concept by John Cone (January)), I work very closely with two steering committees--one for leadership development and the other for project management training.

Those standing committees provide invaluable assistance such as providing feedback, conveying information to key clients, and garnering grassroots support for our programs. I have found that buy-in for workshops has increased dramatically since I've convened both of those teams.

The key to the success of our steering teams has come from securing member participation early, defining a clear mission for the group, and establishing the benefits to membership. I convene such a group whenever the scope of a training intervention will have site-wide impact.

Kudos to John Cone for succinctly describing a methodology for securing participation in training and development programs that has proven highly successful for me time and again.
