Down With Acronyms PU! Too many acronyms. E-Learning by Kevin Oakes in the March issue should have followed some Training 101 advice: When in doubt, spell it out. But I persevered to the third paragraph when the topic, learning content management systems (LCMSs), was finally defined by some other meaningless acronym, IDC, which remained unexplained.

Then I went on to the next article. As indicated in the "ASTD 2002 State of the Industry" report, less than 9 percent of training is delivered using an electronic-based learning (e-learning) method. I submit that an article on [instructor-led training] would better serve those making up the other 81 percent.

Editor's note: Thank you for your feedback. We're glad you mentioned Training 101 because it does cover instructor-led training. T D (yes, another acronym) will continue to cover e-learning as its use is increasing, but we'll try to watch our Ps and Qs regarding acronyms. IDC, which goes solely by its acronym (as does ASTD) stands for International Data Corporation.
