Silver medal

Custom Home, July-August, 2004 by Stephani L. Miller

Georgia-Pacific's DensGlass Gold sheathing product has been used extensively in commercial projects, and over the years it has proved its worth as a moisture- and mold-resistant exterior sheathing. Now the manufacturer has engineered an exterior sheathing using the patented DensGuard glass-mat technology for residential use that provides the same moisture and mold resistance as DensGlass Gold.

DensGlass Silver residential sheathing has been tested per ASTM D 3273 standards to resist mold growth. Based on a paperless technology, DensGlass Silver panels feature a moisture-resistant core and an inorganic glass mat facing and backing. The core is also non-combustible, Using the panels as exterior sheathing, instead of OSB or plywood, eliminates organic materials from the home's exterior wall cavity, which reduces the opportunity for mold to grow. The panels come 7h6 inch thick in 4-by-8-foot lengths and install similarly to standard gypsum panels. DensGlass Silver panels can be used in place of OSB, plywood, foam sheathing, cement board, foil-faced sheathing, and fiberboard sheathing when properly braced, the maker says. 800.225.6119. www.gp.com/gypsum.
