Industry: Email Alert RSS FeedCommand secures CD-R software line
MacWeek, August 3, 1998 by Christina Follmann
Jupiter, Fla.-based Command will stay focused on antivirus software in the long run, but it plans to acquire more technologies over the next year, said Andy Ruppanner, vice president of sales and marketing.
Command created a new subsidiary called GEAR Software to lead the sales, marketing and engineering of the newly acquired products. The subsidiary will incorporate security tools and services into the CD-R products.
Command said it plans to offer an antivirus application that protects CD-R media during recording, a process which the company said is vulnerable to attack. Command also said it will create a product that allows users to copy CD-R files but not to access them until a payment has been made. This would be useful for selling products such as music, the company said.

The estimated ship date for the products is second quarter 1999. The product line will eventually extend to Digital Video Disc products.
Command will handle support of products from GEAR Software and Elektroson.
