Communicator, Navigator free

MacWeek, Jan 26, 1998

Netscape Communications Corp. last week made its Netscape Navigator products and Netscape Communicator Standard Edition 4.0 free.

The company also said it will post the source code for its upcoming Communicator 5.0 on the Web, beginning with the first developer release. Netscape said users will be able to download Communicator 5.0's source code, as well as post enhancements to the product and take part in related newsgroup discussions.

The announcement comes on the heels of increased competition from Microsoft Corp., which has updated the Mac version of its Internet Explorer Web browser to Version 4.0 (see 01.05.98, Page 33). Microsoft distributes Internet Explorer free.
