The merger of Seattle-based PhotoDisc Inc. and Getty Communications plc of London was completed last week with the creation of a new holding company called Getty Images Inc.
PhotoDisc's Seattle offices will be expanded and all 240 employees will be retained, the company said; former PhotoDisc CEO Mark Torrance will become co-chairman of the new company.
Getty Images said it intends to merge the Getty and PhotoDisc Web teams and focus on electronic distribution of the company's image holdings.

The merger followed Getty's acquisition, also last week, of London-based sports-photography company Allsport Photographic plc.
