Audio Ease's BarbaBatch adds RealAudio format

MacWeek, Feb 23, 1998 by John Poultney

Audio Ease this month upgraded BarbaBatch, its file-conversion program. The new version supports more file formats and lets users import tracks directly from audio CDs.

BarbaBatch 2.2, which shipped this month, now supports conversion of files to new formats, specifically RealNetworks Inc.'s RealAudio, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, NeXT/Sun u-law and Ensoniq Corp.'s Paris.

In addition, the update supports the .vox format used in telephony systems from Dialogic Corp. For professional audio applications, the new version adds support for 24- and 32-bit files, according to Utrecht, Netherlands-based Audio Ease.

The update will automatically add file suffixes at the end of file names, such as .ra for RealAudio. Users can override this or specify other suffixes. Like the previous version, the new BarbaBatch maintains folder hierarchies for converted files where applicable.

BarbaBatch 2.2 costs $395, and upgrades are free. The package is distributed by MacSourcery.
