In Brief Pain Free for Women BY PETE EGOSCUE WITH ROGER GITTINES BANTAM DELL PUBLISHING GROUP; $24.95

I'm sold. I want my whole family to start doing Egoscue's "e-cises," simple movements that he promises will increase energy and improve health. His earlier bestseller, Pain Free (Bantam, 2000), introduced his belief that a few stretches and strength-building moves--most of them variations of familiar exercises like the cat-and-dog stretch and push-ups--can eliminate virtually all chronic pain. This latest offering takes a much broader view. He asserts that many of today's health problems and social ills have their origins in the malaise caused by an underactive metabolism. That's where his e-cises come in. And what about the "for women" in the title? Egoscue does touch on PMS and menopause but he actually plays down the notion that women require separate treatment from men.
