Small change

Natural Health, Feb, 2008 by Mary Bolster

We always crave change in a new year. That's why we start diets, exercise programs, and new hobbies come January 1. of course, a month later we're back to our old bad habits. Maybe that's because we crave too big a change. In this issue, we celebrate small changes that yield big results. Try some of these on for size and see if they make you feel healthier, calmer, and more committed to a new you.

* EAT CRANBERRIES Don't stop at Thanksgiving. Incorporate these wonder berries (in homemade breads or chutneys and in juice) all year long and you can reduce your risk of cancer, stroke, heart disease, and urinary tract infections. Learn more on page 20.

* TRY RAW Supermodel Carol Alt switched from junk food to raw food and watched her energy soar. She's a total raw-food convert, but she says you can eat just two meals a day of raw food and still reap the benefits. Find out how on page 15.

* EXERCISE IN BED Forget the gym. Throw off the covers and move your body on the mattress. Our four simple exercises are satisfying, full-body yawns that will leave you energized and ready to face the day. Check them out on page 47.

* TAKE FISH OIL SUPPLEMENTS The Inuit of Greenland rarely die of heart disease. Their secret? Oil from fish, seals, and whales. Don't move to Greenland (big change); just use fish off supplements (small change). See page 62 for more info.
