Sensitivity, compassion and trustworthiness are key in attracting potential mates, concludes a report in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. "Evolutionarily, it makes sense that you'd be attracted to someone you can rely on who is loving and caring," says lead author Eva Klohnen, Ph.D.

The study also found that insecure people are likely to seek out fearful or dismissive partners. Becoming more secure, Klohnen says, requires "learning to trust others and discovering that you are worthy of loving and being loved."
