Color care - Beauty Honored—Potions & Prescriptions - Brief Article

COLOR CARE Regularly shampooing color-treated hair can cause color to fade, and exposure to sun and chlorine turns hair brassy or yellow. News from Dow Corning points to a solution: conditioners with synthetic substances called silicones, previously touted for their ability to soften hair. According to researchers, rinse-out conditioners containing at least 2 percent silicone also provide color-protection benefits.

Look for conditioners that contain the ingredient amodimethicone, advises Dow Corning's Todd Ostergaird. Find it in Garnier Fructis Fortifying Cream Conditioner for Color-Treated or Permed Hair ($4; at drugstores).
