Healing Fibroids - Book Review

Natural Health, Sept, 2002 by Libby Ellis

BY ALLAN WARSHOWSKY, M.D., AND ELENA OUMANO, PH.D.; FIRESIDE/ SIMON AND SCHUSTER; $14

By menopause, 40 percent of American women will have a benign fibroid tumor--and most of them will be advised to have a hysterectomy. But instead of surgery, Warshowsky, a gynecologist, and Oumano, a yoga practitioner, advocate treating the underlying imbalances that caused the fibroids. Among the approaches they recommend are dietary changes (like eliminating dairy) and bodywork (like yoga). Admitting that change is tough, they include plenty of inspiring stories. If you have fibroids, you'll want to discuss some of their recommendations with your doctor, but you'll find other suggestions you can try on your own.
