ARRMS update

The American Road Race Medical Society (ARRMS) held its second meeting in conjunction with the HP Houston Marathon on January 17. Lectures were presented by Gatorade Sports Science Institute researchers Randy Eichner, M.D. and Bob Murray, M.D. (electrolytes); ARRMS Chairperson and Twin Cities Marathon Medical Director Bill Roberts, M.D. (heat stroke at road races); and Chicago Marathon Medical Director Greg Ewert, M.D. (mortality at marathons). A panel discussion followed with the additions of HP Houston Marathon[R] Medical Director John Cianca, M.D. and Assistant Medical Director Joe Chorley, M.D.

The ARRMS meeting concluded with a business discussion focusing on the mission of the organization, review of by-laws and scheduling of future ARRMS meetings:

April 18 -- Boston, MA*

April 14-18 -- Vancouver, BC

June 2-5 -- Indianapolis, IN

October 30 -- Washington, DC*
