* AstraZeneca's antipsychotic Seroquel (quetiapine), used to treat schizophrenia, could be an effective therapy for bipolar disorder, according to results from a clinical trial. In combination with mood stabilizers such as lithium, Seroquel was significantly more effective at treating bipolar disorder than were mood stabilizers alone.

The quetiapine trial, known as Study 99, is part of a comprehensive bipolar disorder clinical trial program being undertaken to examine the efficacy of quetiapine in treating bipolar disorder.
