Two out of three migraine sufferers have delayed taking their medications or skipped doses because of concern over side effects - Drug Cost Studies in Brief - Brief Article

Drug Cost Management Report, Feb, 2003

* Two out of three migraine sufferers have delayed taking their medications or skipped doses because of concern over side effects, reports the American Headache Society in its January issue of Headache. In a study conducted by the University Headache Center at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey, 37% of migraine episodes received delayed treatment, and 44% of attacks remained untreated due to medication avoidance.

Previous research suggests early treatment of a migraine attack may help sufferers achieve pain relief more quickly and have less recurrence. In May 2001, AXERT[TM] (almotriptan malate tablets) received FDA approval for the acute treatment of migraine with or without aura in adults. The drug is part of the triptan class.
