* New data suggest that Lamictal, an anti-convulsant medication, protects against bipolar depression, or bipolar I disorder. The findings were presented at the scientific sessions of the American Psychiatric Association. Lamictal is marketed by GlaxoSmithKline. The product has been sold since 1994 as a therapy for seizures, and is under review at FDA for maintenance therapy in bipolar I disorder.
