FISC Pearl Harbor reaches out to small business - Around NAVSUP - Fleet and Industrial Supply Center - Brief Article

Navy Supply Corps Newsletter, March-April, 2003 by Jim Murray

PEARL HARBOR -- The Fleet and. Industrial Supply Center Pearl Harbor Contracting Department recently conducted several "outreach" programs to support one of this nation's greatest assets--small business.

Attracting small businesses to compete for federal contracts not only increases the pool of qualified bidders, but it also helps to ensure the survival of small businesses by enhancing their competitive positions and stimulating their growth.

The largest outreach program, which attracted more than 100 small business representatives, was held off-site at a location convenient to Oahu's business sector. At the all-day seminar, CDR Mike Craft, Contracting Department director, reviewed the step-by-step process that small businesses need to follow when pursuing government contracts.

In addition, Charlene Matheson, of the FISC Pearl Contracting Department, gave a presentation at a recent seminar for women-owned small businesses. Since then, Matheson has been contacting these businesses when their specialty areas match up with contracting requirements.

FISC Pearl is proud of its support for the pioneering men and women who risk their time and wealth to start small businesses. Working within the parameters of federal legislation, it does all it can to ensure that these entrepreneurs are given a fair and equitable opportunity to wrest success from their endeavors, proving once again that the American dream can become a reality.
