NSCS celebrates 49 years in Athens - From the Schoolhouse - Navy Supply Corps School - Brief Article

Navy Supply Corps Newsletter, May-June, 2003

Staff and students of the Navy Supply Corps School (NSCS) celebrated the school's 49th Birthday in Athens with a cake cutting ceremony held in Scott Hall.

CAPT Monette offered a brief history lesson for the current students. "What a wonderful tradition we have here in Athens," remarked CAPT Monette. "It's something to say that every supply officer in the fleet since 1954 has come through Athens and the Navy Supply Corps School at least once."

The Navy Supply Corps School moved to Athens from Bayonne, N.J. in 1953 and was officially opened on Jan. 15, 1954. On June 4, 1954, 156 officers graduated from what is now known as the Supply Officer Basic Qualification Course (BQC). Today, the Supply Corps School teaches and supports over thirty different courses in addition to the BQC. The Marine Aviation Logistic Tactical Information System (ALTIS) course came to NSCS in the late 1990s. Next year, NSCS will celebrate its Golden Anniversary as the school commemorates 50 years in Athens. Plans are already underway for a gala celebration to mark the occasion.
