Each year the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Supply Community along with personnel from the Supply Enlisted Community Management Branch (NAVSUP OP) travel across the globe to present the annual Supply Enlisted Road Show. This forum is an excellent opportunity for Sailors to obtain critical career information.

Presentations on advancement, supply initiatives, retention, recruiting, career planning, special programs, and separation/retirement are made at each site. You are encouraged to get the word out to your Sailors and provide them the opportunity to attend the program when it's in your area. Local supply leadership will provide specific times and locations for the presentations. All supply officers are encouraged to attend ... the information you receive will be valuable to you as you provide daily career guidance to your Sailors.

Position Title: Transportation Policy Officer

Position Rank: Lieutenant commander

Responsibilities: Analyze and evaluate a broad range of defense and commercial technologies, to address transportation problems, develop technological, procedural, IT, or equipment solutions through the development of transportation technologies, computer simulation and modeling, defense C4I, electronic commerce, economic and cost modeling, state-of-the-art training and educational solutions, and advanced manufacturing technologies. Work with Naval Postgraduate School to assist in the development and support of the transportation and logistics curriculum to ensure Defense Transportation System (DTS) curriculum is up to date and relevant to today's requirements.

What are some of the recent initiatives of this position?

* Program Manager for USTRANSCOM's Center for the Commercial Deployment of Transportation Technologies (CCDoTT) High Speed Sealift program. This program examines the technological advances in marine transportation analyzing existing high-speed ferries for development and use within the defense transportation system (DTS).

* Worked very closely with Navy Warfare Development Command on the Joint Theater Support Vessel, which is a lease by the Army, Navy, Marines and Coast Guard to test and evaluate the feasibility of current high-speed technology for DoD use.

* Continually work with NPS to provide financial support for relevant research by providing topics for study to the transportation instructors. Also worked closely with NPS and the Navy Supply Corps' Transportation Working Group to assist in the development of the NPS transportation curriculum and possible transportation career path.

How competitive is the billet?

This is a Joint coded billet and also a 1304P billet.

NOTE: Although this billet is a Joint billet, it is command policy that no personnel will go TDY during their tour at USTRANSCOM for JPME Phase II. The person assigned to this billet will need to attend JPME II en route to USTRANSCOM otherwise they will not be able to attend.

This is current command guidance handed down by the DCINC, and has been enforced since late summer of 2001.

The Supply Officer at Naval Special Warfare Unit 10 in Rota, Spain, is responsible for the budgeting and maintenance of all command OPTAR funds and financial records. He manages an average annual budget of $250,000, which is primarily used for maintaining stock inventories, consumable purchases, vehicle repair parts, ADP equipment, and facility improvements. The Supply Department is responsible for inventory control, management, and distribution of all unit repair parts, material, equipage, and other consumable items. Other supply officer responsibilities include: properly processing all stock and open purchases; maintaining an accurate Table of Organic Allowances (TOA); maintaining sufficient organizational clothing; controlling material receipt, stowage, and distribution; tracking outstanding requisitions; managing all survey processing; controlling Depot Level Repairable (DLR) processing; coordinating inventories of controlled items; acting as liaison with senior Navy supply commands; and coordinating procurement of field rations.
