DON eBusiness Operations Office announces next round of 2002 pilot projects

Navy Supply Corps Newsletter, Nov-Dec, 2002

The Department of the Navy eBusiness Operations Office is funding round three for fiscal year 2002 eBusiness pilot projects.

The eight pilot projects in this round brings to 21 the total number of pilots funded this fiscal year.

The third round of pilot projects includes "DoD-VA Integration," for the Naval Medical Center, San Diego, which will provide seamless communication of medical information between the Veterans Administration and Department of Defense via a single, graphical interface at the point of care. The "Multimedia Job Performance Aids (MMJPA) for Navy and Marine Corp Aviation Maintenance," for the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division, Orlando, Fla., will use multimedia technology to capture the knowledge of maintenance experts and make that information available via existing naval aviation web portals accessible directly by the fleet.

Prior Service Recruiting (PSR) Enterprise Application Portal, for the Marine Corps Reserve Support Command, New Orleans, La., will integrate applications into a unified portal interface to enable Prospect Relationship Management, Logistics Services, and Personnel Management and Administration. "NAVAIR Research and Engineering Knowledge Preservation Program," for NAVAIR Patuxent River, Md., uses a video asset management system to manage the video-captured content of the expert work force.

The "Integrated Data Environment (IDE), Business Intelligence (BI) and Portal Content," for NAVSUP, is a middleware solution that will provide the ability to develop and deploy a Virtual Integrated Data Environment (VIDE)/Virtual Data Warehouse (VDW) from existing legacy systems databases. The H-1 Depot Supply Chain Support Tool, for NAVAIR, will demonstrate that supply chain management information can be linked from legacy Army and Navy systems to support both of these supply chain business processes. "Navy Ship Product Data Exchange," for NAVSEA Carderock Division, will test and evaluate the suitability of XML standards and technology for electronic transfer of large-scale, robust ship product model data.

Finally, Electronic Planned Maintenance System, also for NAVSEA, will make Planned Maintenance System (PMS) documents accessible via web-enabled format.

The DON eBusiness Operations Office wants to help Navy and Marine Corps e-business concepts become realities. And, because pilot submissions are evaluated continuously, the opportunity to have a submission selected for funding is ongoing. Ideas for pilot projects may be submitted to http:// www.don-ebusiness.navsup.navy.mil.
