CAPT Brian W. Blanchfield, SC, USN, completed 30 years of active service and retired on July 1, 2004, after serving at National Defense University, Washington, D.C. He received his bachelor's degree at Villanova University and his master's degrees from Fairleigh Dickinson University and The National Defense University.

His previous duty stations include Commander, Military Sealift Command, Washington, D.C.; Headquarters, Military Traffic Management Command, Falls Church, Va.; USS Spica (TAFS 9); Commander, Naval Supply Systems Command, Washington, D.C.; Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, Washington, D.C.; Navy Supply Activity, Naples, Italy; Navy Material Transportation Office Detachment Bayonne, N.J.; USS Clifton Sprague (FFG 16); USS Suribachi (AE 21); Branch Commissary Store, Newport, R.I.; and USS Miller (FF 1091).
