Concrete schools in the spotlight
Concrete Construction, Feb, 2003
Produced jointly by the Tilt-Up Concrete Association and the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute, this new 8-page brochure highlights the main reasons why site-cast tilt-up concrete construction provides the best building solution for today's education market. The construction of new schools is a top priority in many communities across the country, and tilt-up concrete construction provides the benefits needed by public and private school boards. Combining the advantages of construction speed, minimal capital investment, low maintenance, durability, architectural creativity, and safety, more then 650 million square feet of building structures are constructed each year using reinforced tilt-up concrete.
This brochure highlights projects from around the country to help illustrate the major advantages of this design and construction building method. A prominent architect of one of the featured projects stated, "The durability, flexibility, and low-cycle costs of insulated tilt-up wall panels allowed us to meet scheduling, budget, and other needs desired for the project. We believe tilt-up construction is the answer for the growing education market.
Another prominent design/build contractor stated, "The reaction by the school district was unbelievable. I am confident that more school boards will use this type of construction in the future as it typically saves 2 to 4 months of construction time."
