Safety is Key to Pipe Producers' Success

The American Concrete Pipe Association (ACPA) presented its annual safety awards in Atlanta in February. Plants were categorized according to hours worked in 2003. Listed below are the winners of three of the awards.

Group First Place Awards were determined by the best average incidence rate (incidence rate lost-time incidence rate / 2). In case of a tie, the group winner was determined by the facility with the larger number of days since its last lost-time injury.

"The success of our industry is determined by the performance of our most valuable resource--our employees," says ACPA. "Efficient production and maximum profit require we have skilled employees on the job. Injuries result in persons working at reduced capacity, and create a need to fill skilled positions with less experience. Safe production is our key to success."
