Masonry Constructions's project of the year contest
Masonry Construction, Nov-Dec, 2003
Outstanding examples of masonry construction deserve to be honored and publicized. Performing this task recognizes top-quality design and craftsmanship and inspires excellence among others in the profession. MASONRY CONSTRUCTION magazine's 5th annual "Project of the Year" competition will serve this purpose by honoring the best masonry jobs completed in the past two years.
Masonry projects in 10 different market categories will be evaluated. A panel of judges will review the entries and select the winners in each category. (There may not be a winner in every category, depending on the number and quality of entries.)
The best project among all those submitted regardless of category will receive the prestigious "Project of the Year" award.
Eligibility
There are several factors to consider when selecting the entry projects.
* Projects must make significant use of masonry (brick, concrete block, stone, glass block, or structural glazed tile).
* "Top Projects" is not a beauty contest. Although aesthetics will be considered, this contest is focused on the involvement of the mason in the innovations in design, construction, or placement of materials; important cost-saving methods; and environmentally-sensitive solutions. These factors are equally important judging criteria.
* Projects must have been completed after July 1,2001.
* There are no geographic restrictions on the project's location. Jobs anywhere in the world are eligible.
Entering
* Look over your company's "A" list of projects of the past two years and match them with the market categories listed in the boxed copy. Do you see a winner in the bunch?
If so, let us know. Send a note indicating the building's name and location and the market category you plan on entering (only one entry per category). Fax the information to MASONRY CONSTRUCTION at 630.543.3112 or e-mail rholzhauer@ hanley-wood. com. Designate one person to serve as the primary contact and include his/her phone number and e-mail address.
Detailed instructions on preparing the entry package will be forwarded immediately after receiving the notification. The entry package should be presented in a 1/2inch, 3-ring binder, with only one entry per binder.
The entry should contain a detailed written description of the project, how masonry was used, and what made the job special. Between five and ten high-quality photos of the project are required. Also needed is a list of the project participant, including the owner, masonry contractor, architect, structural engineer, and general contractor.
The entry package must be received by December 31, 2003. Send the entries to MASONRY CONSTRUCTION'S Top Projects, 426 S. Westgate St., Addison, IL 60101.
The masonry contractor from the "Project of the Year" will receive a free trip to the World of Masonry 2005 in Las Vegas and one night's stay.
All winning entries will be featured in the July/August 2004 issue of MASONRY CONSTRUCTION.
