Lightweight shovel is full of holes

Masonry Construction, Sept, 2003

Strategically placed pea-sized holes throughout this shovel allow material to release from the surface and keep it lighter than a similarly sized conventional version. This design has less surface area for material to stick to and makes the shovel more effective and efficient. Despite the holes in the blade, very little, if any, material seeps through--even mud, dirt, gravel, or moist sand.
