Bourbon open a BIA tradition for 54 years

Masonry Construction, Jan, 2003 by Ron Holzhauer

The Bourbon Open Golf Tournament has been a cornerstone of the Brick Industry Association's Region 6 annual meeting since 1948. Gary Davis, keeper of the tournament rules and history, said that the tournament got its distinctive name when a bottle of bourbon was placed on the green as the prize for the closest to the pin shot at the inaugural event in 1948. Davis believes that the tournament may be the longest-running annual event in the brick industry.

The 2002 winner of the Open was Corey Schultz (right), Hebron Brick, Sioux Falls. S.D. He was presented with the traveling trophy by Gary Davis, Endicott Clay Products Co., Fairbury, Neb.

Region 6 represents brick manufacturers in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Kansas, and Missouri.
