Ergonomics Awareness Program meets Federal criteria

Masonry Construction, Feb, 2003 by Ron Holzhauer

In order to comply with proposed Federal OSHA regulations, masonry contractors and masonry material producers must initiate an ergonomics awareness program for their employees. The program must address the "hazard and caution zones" mentioned in the Federal mandate.

The Masonry Education Group of Washington spent two years investigating, researching, and planning to develop a training program which meets and/or exceeds the Federal criteria. The program has been approved by the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries.

The training program covers:

* Explanation of the regulations

* Best practices/acceptable practices unique to the masonry industry

* Enforcement and inspection

* Implementation schedule

* How to comply.
