Central Pennsylvania Golden Trowel winners announced

The 2002 Central Pennsylvania IMI Golden Trowel Award winners for outstanding achievements in masonry design and construction were recently announced. The awards were presented for projects built in 33 counties of Central Pennsylvania within the past two years.

The entries were broken into five categories: commercial/retail, multi-residential, institutional, educational, and memorial. The best project overall was presented the Grand Award.

* Best Commercial/Retail--First Citizens National Bank, Mansfield, Pa. (right, top)

* Best Memorial--Pennsylvania Veteran's Memorial, Fort Indiantown Gap, Pa. (above)

* Best Institutional--Mifflin County Prison, Lewistown, Pa.

* Best Educational--Scranton High School, Scranton, Pa. (bottom)

IMI's Golden Trowel Awards are presented in various areas around the country, and in all the trowel trades. Juries include architects, contractors, and craftworkers.

Judges for the Central Pennsylvania contest were Don Hart, International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers; Ellen Jung, Ewing Cole Cherry Brott; Bob Miron, International Masonry Institute; Butch Rovder, Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local I MD/DC/VA; and Janice Woodcock, Woodcock Design.
