Eliminating sharp edges

Q We installed flashing with a stainless steel drip edge. The corners form sharp edges and the flashing projects from the wall into an area where it is exposed to pedestrian traffic. I am afraid that someone might get cut.
How can this situation be avoided?
A It is better to use a stainless steel flashing with a hemmed edge, which eliminates the sharp projection. The hemmed edge also improves the appearance of the flashing.
With an existing flashing, it may be possible to round the corners using shears and a file. The sharp edge can be softened with sandpaper. Consider using sandpaper on the entire length of the flashing where it is exposed to the public.
