BARS/NIGHTCLUBS
* Angelo's Fairmount Tavern, 2300 Fairmount Avenue; (609) 344-2439. A family-owned institution since 1932, reviewer Alissa Wolf of Digitalcity.com says this pine-paneled spot "has served consistently fine food since its inception." Check out the lobster ravioli with lobster sauce, mussels fra diax. and homemade crab cakes. Great sauces, too, and a "lively before- and after-dinner crowd."
* Bubba Mac Shack, 520 Bay Avenue, Somers Point, N.J.; (609) 926-7575. Worth the trip, this bar/restaurant in nearby Somers Point is the "Editor's Pick" on TravelApe.com. With three different levels (blues, jazz and gospel) Bubba Mac's is "undoubtedly the finest live music venue in the area." The Sunday gospel brunch is popular, as is the rest of its New Orleans-style cuisine. Open daily, 11 a.m.-2 a.m.; cover charge after 9 p.m.
* Chelsea Pub, 8 South Morris Avenue; (609) 345-4916. Located near the Tropicana, this pub has three bars, four pool tables and a fantastic jukebox. Locals like to hang out here, too. Both the bar and kitchen are open 24 hours.
* De Feo's Lounge, 29 South Missouri Avenue; (609) 347-7780. Another secret local hangout, De Feo's is a 24-hour sports bar found between Caesars and Trump Plaza. You can get a great pizza here at any time of the day.
* Deja Vu, 245 South New York Avenue; (609) 348-4313. Hook up with other showgoers at this very popular conventioners' spot, which has recently gone to 7 days a week. Bars can be found on the main and upper levels, and the dance floor is a constant sea of bodies. If you want to be in the thick of it, wait till midnight, when things really start moving. Happy hour is 4-7 p.m.
* The Irish Pub, 164 St. James Place; (609) 344-9063. Rockandrollcasino.com promises this pub "is close enough to all the action without actually being stuck right in the middle of it." Next to the bar, a restaurant serves pub fare such as beer-battered fish and chips. As the reviewer notes, the "deep mahogany woods, dim lighting and plenty of Guinness on tap" should keep you for a while.
